Opened in June 2006, the museum (Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac) is dedicated to so-called primitive indigenous or “Arts premiers” from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania.
It preserves nearly 370,000 works that illustrate the cultural diversity of the non-European civilizations of the Neolithic era (+/- 10,000 years) to the 20th century. The collection includes everyday objects, masks, totems, clothing, ceremonial costumes, religious objects, sculptures , jewels, musical instruments…
