Opened in 2010 on the site of a former 1920s dance hall, the BAL is a place for exhibitions, publishing and pedagogy dedicated to the contemporary image in all its forms : photography, video, film and the new media are presented and debated.

The BAL also runs an educational platform, La Fabrique du Regard (Factory of the Eye).
